Enabling Cloud for HPC Applications

The project goal is to build a framework which enables the cloud for executing HPC (High Performance Computing) application efficiently. The objective is to build scheduling strategies to schedule HPC applications keeping SLAs in mind. The framework comprises of strategies for better VM placement and for reducing performance degradation. The framework also has a strategy to achieve data locality in cloud environment for I/O intensive applications.

Hybrid Computing GPU-CPU Programming

HPC (High Performance Computing) applications need more computing power. To produce such computing power we need high end hardware. Systems having both multicore CPUs and accelerators like GPUs are widely adopted in HPC. The popularity of such heterogeneous architectures is largely due to the need for both high performance and power efficiency. The main issue here is porting complex applications to hybrid architectures (CPU-GPU). In this context, we are developing a framework which schedule the HPC applications on multi CPU/Cores and on GPUs. The applications are built using combinations of different parallel programming libraries like MPI/OpenMP/CUDA/OpenACC.

Profit Driven Cloud Brokerage

Cost effectiveness is one of the reasons behind the popularity of Cloud. Effective resource utilization reduces cost and resource wastage. In this project, the team at NMIT builds, implements and tests a profit driven framework which dynamically predicts the application’s requirement and then configures and scales the VM to suit the application requirement.

Agri-cloud

Information Technology is not utilized much in the agriculture sector. In this sector, few Data Mining techniques have been used for predicting crop yield. With this in mind, we propose a cloud based framework to provide information as a service to farmers, agricultural experts and agro industries. The framework will be able to predict/estimate crop, fertilizer, pesticide etc. by considering agricultural parameters such as soil parameters, crop parameters etc. The framework will analyze and classify agricultural data sets like soil, climate conditions, etc. The information will be provided to the end users through devices like the mobile phone, Kiosk and PC.

Edu-cloud

Educational Systems in India are evolving and attempting to make efficiently utilize resources by adopting current trends in IT like Cloud Computing. This project aims at providing a platform for students and researchers to explore the possibilities of Cloud Technology. The project provides access to a self-designed and self-provisioned Private Community Cloud called as “Educloud”, which provides software, computing infrastructures, platforms as services and Storage as a Service. “Educloud” provides software, computational resources and reserved storage space through internet access. Thus, eliminating the need of redundant data storage and processing. To end result would be to make education more simple, efficient and effective.
