About the Program

Data science is a multi-disciplinary field that uses scientific methods, processes, algorithms, and systems to extract knowledge and insights from structured and unstructured data. Data Science is a current industry demand, lion’s share of companies are adapting to use Data Science techniques to get insight into their day-to-day operations. This brings an array of opportunities for young engineering graduates.

Master of Technology (M.Tech.) in Data Science starting from August 2019 at NMIT is first of its kind under Visvesvaraya Technological University. The program consists of four semesters. During the first two semesters students undergo in-campus teaching and learning, and the last two semesters students undergo internships at the reputed industry/institute.

Harvard Business Review calls Data Science as the hottest job of the 21stcentury. There is a huge demand for data sjcientists today. The US leads the data science market, requiring 190,000 data scientists by next year. India also joins this elite bandwagon, requiring data scientists across a diverse range of industries. By 2025, the Data Science and Analytics sector in India is estimated to grow eightfold, reaching $16 billion. The 2020 estimate calls for 2.7 million job postings for data science and analytics roles. According to Indeed, the average salary for a Data Scientist is ₹ 8,43,764 per year in India.

PO-3 : Students should be able to demonstrate a degree of mastery over the area as per thespecialization of the program. The mastery should be at a level higher than therequirements in the appropriate bachelor program

PO-4 : Conceptualize and solve data engineering problems using Mathematical, Statistical and Machine Learning concepts to arrive at feasible and optimal solutions for societal benefits.

PO-5 :Use data analytics tool and technologies to analyze business models and solve real world problems.
